The main focus of Dr. Guan’s laboratory is cardiovascular tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The projects are spanned from synthesis and fabrication of functional biomaterials; controlled delivery of growth factor, gene and antibody; generation of oxygen release system; engineering microenvironments to control stem cell survival, proliferation and differentiation under tissue-specific conditions; use of minimally invasive surgery approach to deliver stem cell and injectable biomaterials into heart for heart tissue regeneration; to development of cardiac patch for heart tissue regeneration. These interdisciplinary projects are conducted by collaboration with researchers from chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, and surgery.
