American Medical Student Association GERIATRICS TASK FORCE
The American Medical Student Association is one of the largest medical student organizations in the world and seeks to provide leadership, sponsorship, and information on all aspects of medical students' education and interests. The Geriatrics Task Force is a special interest group within AMSA which seeks to promote interest in the field of geriatrics. As the population ages, there is an ever-growing demand for clinicians focusing upon the needs of older adults. This task force seeks to promote interest in the field of geriatrics by introducing students to the opportunities and rewards of geriatric medicine through various programs. The Geriatrics Task Force at OSU COMPH sponsors the following types of activities.
- Student/Older Adult Community Outreach Program: students spend a morning at the home of an older adult in the community helping out with various household projects, and then meet other students and older adults for lunch to share thoughts and experiences.
- Informational Meetings: students and program coordinators present information on research and internship/externship opportunities open to medical students
- Guest Speakers/Panel Discussions: geriatric clinicians are invited to come to OSU COMPH to speak on topics of interest or concern to students, older adults, and clinicians.
The Geriatrics Task Force is always looking for new ideas and projects to increase awareness of and interest in the field of geriatrics. If you would like more information about geriatrics, please contact Dr. Bonnie Kantor at (614) 293-4815 or e-mail kantor.1@osu.edu.
