Drs. Daniel Janies, Peter J. Embi, and Philip R. O. Payne, Biomedical Informatics faculty at The Ohio State University, were invited to comment in the February 17, 2011 issue of Nature on the role that recent health information technology legislation (HITECH Act) can play in improving both heath care and science. They specifically discuss the promise of point-of-care genetic sequencing of infectious diseases to advance personalized medicine and public health.
